Players who completed Halo: Campaign Evolved during early access have discovered what could be a hint at Halo Studios' next project. Finishing all campaign missions on Legendary difficulty unlocks two secret cutscenes that many fans believe are teasing a remake of Halo 2.
Special Legendary endings have long been a tradition in the Halo series. Some have served as comedic rewards, while others expanded the franchise's lore or hinted at future installments.
The first secret cutscene centers on Sergeant Avery Johnson. Watching Halo: Combat Evolved's Legendary ending on a datapad, he nostalgically remarks, "Those were the days." He is then shown relaxing beside the wreckage of a Warthog on one of Halo's beaches. Moments later, a massive explosion appears in the distance as a UNSC Pelican flies overhead. Johnson says, "Well, that's my cue," before turning toward the camera and adding, "See you in the sequel."
The second secret ending follows 343 Guilty Spark drifting through space after escaping the destruction of the Halo ring. He approaches an orange planet and a futuristic structure that closely resembles the gas mining facility on Threshold, a location featured in Halo 2's campaign.
Neither Halo Studios nor Microsoft has officially announced a Halo 2 remake. However, the two secret cutscenes have fueled speculation that such a project could be in development. They may simply serve as a bridge between Halo: Campaign Evolved and Halo 2: Anniversary, although Rebs Gaming previously claimed in May that Halo Studios is working on remakes of both Halo 2 and Halo 3.
