Infinity Ward has officially confirmed that it is working on a new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare title. In a recent video, the studio described the project as “the definitive Modern Warfare” and said it will launch “a new chapter” for the franchise.
Following the video, the developers also shared a social media statement reiterating that the upcoming game represents an important new era not only for the series, but for Infinity Ward itself.
«We build visceral, immersive combat experiences that hit different. As a new chapter begins for this studio, we’re focused on what defines us: passion, precision, obsession, and an unrelenting drive to make the best entertainment in the industry. Our next game is the result of that mindset».
«Determined. Bold. Relentless. Built by a team pushing every detail, every system, every moment to its limit. On behalf of everyone at Infinity Ward, we’re proud of what we’ve been building and excited to finally start sharing it with you».
It is still unclear whether the project will be another reboot similar to 2019’s Modern Warfare or if it will continue within the existing continuity. However, the studio’s comments strongly suggest that a full reveal of the next Call of Duty is getting closer.
Rumors continue to point toward Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 as the next entry in the franchise, with reports claiming that Activision is targeting an October release window. Some insiders also believe the game could reboot the Modern Warfare storyline once again.
Infinity Ward’s desire for a fresh start may come after the mixed reception to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, both of which received significant criticism from players and reviewers after launch.
