Amid constant reports about layoffs, studio closures, and struggles across the AAA industry, indie games continue to deliver unexpected success stories. One of the latest examples is Mouse: P.I. For Hire, which has exceeded its publisher’s expectations.

In its latest financial report, Playside confirmed that the DOOM-inspired shooter, influenced by 1930s cartoons and noir detective stories, has sold more than 730,000 copies. According to the developers, the game performed far beyond initial forecasts, with sales continuing to grow every day.

Interestingly, nearly 50% of all sales came from consoles and other platforms rather than PC alone. The game successfully combines its black-and-white visual style with fast-paced gameplay, helping it become one of the standout indie releases of the year so far.

The strong launch has also had a major financial impact on Playside itself. The publisher stated that the success of the game allowed it to fully recover development costs and raise its projected profit forecast for the current financial year to $53 million.
