Hello Games is celebrating the tenth anniversary of No Man’s Sky, which has become the studio’s biggest and most popular project. Studio founder and managing director Sean Murray marked the occasion with a message to the community, reflecting on the game’s decade-long journey.

Over the past ten years, No Man’s Sky has received 40 major free updates that dramatically expanded the game. These additions introduced base building, exocraft, settlements, mechs, pets, living ships, expeditions and much more. The game has also made its way to most major gaming platforms, including Switch, Xbox, VR, PSVR, PS5, Xbox Series and Switch 2.

According to Murray, tens of millions of players have visited No Man’s Sky over the past decade, spending hundreds of millions of hours exploring its vast universe. Despite that, players have discovered less than 1% of all the planets in the game. No Man’s Sky also reached its highest player numbers since launch in 2026.

«For any game to reach its ten-year milestone is impressive, and I think that is especially true for No Man’s Sky. It’s really a testament to the passion of the team here and of the players for the game that this year we’ve seen our highest player numbers since launch and won a TGA and BAFTA for best evolving game», — Murray said.

Hello Games is not slowing down either. The studio has already teased the next major update, which will be titled “COSMOS”, although no details about the content have been revealed yet.

«In a similar way, our small team feels we have a lot left to explore in what No Man’s Sky can be. In the background, we are busy cooking on our next game, Light No Fire, and big things for the future of No Man’s Sky, with the tease of our upcoming update titled “COSMOS”. More will follow!», — Murray said.

Murray also reflected on No Man’s Sky’s difficult launch in 2016. The game faced technical issues and widespread criticism over the gap between pre-release expectations and the product that players received. Hello Games continued supporting the project with free updates for years, eventually turning No Man’s Sky into one of the industry’s most notable comeback stories.

Today, No Man’s Sky holds a “Very Positive” user rating on Steam, highlighting just how dramatically the community’s perception of the game has changed over the past decade.
