Riot Games has begun beta testing a built-in integration between Riot accounts and the Discord platform. The new feature allows League of Legends players in the United States, Canada, and Brazil to invite Discord friends directly into the game through the client.
The main goal of the update is to speed up team formation under the slogan “Less waiting, more playing.” After linking Riot and Discord accounts, users gain access to the following features:
Notably, Riot Games deliberately chose not to integrate Discord text or voice chat into its client. The functionality is focused exclusively on invitation management and presence status.
In practice, the system works as follows: invitations are sent to users as Discord messages that display the group’s status in real time. The “Join” button instantly launches the game. If the party has already entered a match or disbanded, the invite link expires and turns into a regular game launch button.
The company noted that the feature will roll out to other regions “in the near future,” although no exact dates have been announced yet.
As a reminder, Riot Games recently updated Vanguard to combat DMA cheats, with reports claiming that the update may cause firmware damage to certain devices.
