Sony Santa Monica has confirmed that God of War Laufey will receive a physical release.
The announcement, published on X, effectively revealed the game's release window. Since Sony has set January 2028 as the deadline for ending the production of physical PlayStation game copies, the studio's statement clearly indicates that the game is scheduled to launch next year.
Starting in January 2028, all new PlayStation 5 titles will be distributed exclusively in digital format through the PlayStation Store and retail partners. Additional physical print runs will only be permitted for games released in 2027 or earlier.
God of War Laufey was first unveiled last month during a State of Play presentation, where the developers showcased more than 20 minutes of gameplay. The new installment will continue the franchise's story, with Faye—Kratos' wife and Atreus' mother, who died before the events of God of War (2018)—taking on the role of the main protagonist.
