In a new episode of the All About Counter-Strike podcast, analyst Jonatan "Devilwalk" Lundberg and host James "BanKs" Banks discussed the problem of overlapping major tournament dates and the intensifying competition between tournament organizers in 2027.
Evaluating the recent overlap between IEM Atlanta 2026 and PGL Astana 2026, BanKs called the situation unfortunate. According to him, the Atlanta tournament gathered a large number of strong teams, while in Astana, mostly NAVI and Vitality stood out. Although the overlapping dates provided viewers with a large number of Counter-Strike matches, keeping up with two major events simultaneously proved too difficult for the audience.
Speaking about the next season, Devilwalk highlighted the trend of booking strategically important dates: tournament organizers are actively competing to attract top rosters and maximize viewer attention. According to Banks, schedule overlaps in 2027 remain inevitable. In the first season of next year, two major clashes are already planned: first, BLAST Bounty Winter 2027 and PGL Bucharest 2027 will take place simultaneously, and later, BLAST Open Singapore 2027 will overlap with PGL Łódź 2027.
BanKs also noted a smart approach to logistics planning. In 2027, many teams will prioritize PGL events due to the large number of tournaments in the Schengen Area. However, elite squads will also attend BLAST championships in Singapore and Mongolia. The host called BLAST's decision to stop hosting tournaments in the Americas a smart move that will help players avoid visa issues and excessive fatigue from long flights, despite the great audience there.
The only tournament organizer that will not feel the consequences of this competition remains ESL. BanKs concluded that all top teams almost unanimously agree to attend this company's events every year.
