The controller is already available in multiple regions. It is priced higher than most competing devices, but bloggers and analysts say it is worth the cost. In the US, it is priced at $99, while in Europe it costs €99. Official sales in Ukraine have not yet been announced.
The gamepad received two square trackpads measuring 34.5 mm with haptic feedback and adjustable pressure sensitivity, a six-axis gyroscope, two durable TMR sticks, four rear buttons, four vibration motors, and capacitive grip sensors.
Thanks to its high-capacity battery, the controller can run for over 35 hours on a single charge. The Steam Controller Puck wireless dongle also doubles as a magnetic charging dock, and wireless input latency is around 8 ms.
The controller is compatible with all devices that support Steam, including PCs, laptops, handheld systems, and the upcoming Steam Machine.
Valve previously stated it had produced a large batch of controllers, but high demand at launch could lead to shortages.
According to bloggers, the controller is particularly well suited for strategy games, fighting games, and complex economic simulations. It can also be used as a convenient PC control device when sitting on a couch without needing a mouse. However, it is larger than many other controllers and lacks silicone grips to prevent slipping.
There is still no update on the Steam Machine console or the Steam Frame VR headset, both of which were delayed due to a RAM shortage.
