Enthusiast developer under the nickname Slqnt has presented the first technical teaser of his new project — a full version of the tactical shooter Counter-Strike: Global Offensive that runs directly in a web browser window. The main advantage of the development is that the game launches instantly and does not require installing the Steam client or downloading third-party files to a PC.

Currently, the development is in its early stages. The released technical teaser demonstrates a stable launch of the game and basic environment rendering in a browser environment.

The author's next step will be the implementation of artificial intelligence to integrate full training sessions against bots.

Slqnt already has experience in implementing similar large-scale solutions. Previously, he successfully created a web port of the cult classic Half-Life 2, which offers:

  • the ability to fully complete the story campaign;
  • high performance with over 100 FPS on modern devices;
  • support for saving game progress and classic console commands;
  • operation based on modern web technologies WebAssembly and WebGL.

Porting CS:GO is a significantly more complex task than porting single-player projects due to the multiplayer specificity of the game. The key technical difficulties are the development of high-quality network synchronization (netcode) to prevent delays and the adaptation of game shaders to web standards.

A separate open question remains the legal side of the project: it is currently unknown how Valve will react to the free distribution of its intellectual property on unofficial resources.

Reminder, Nintendo continues negotiations with Samsung regarding the OLED version of Switch 2.
