Rumors about an OLED version of the Nintendo Switch 2 have resurfaced once again. Back in May 2025, before the console launched, Bloomberg reported that Nintendo was considering releasing an OLED model, with Samsung expected to supply the displays.
Now, Korean outlet ZDNet, citing its own sources, reports that Nintendo is indeed in discussions with partners about producing a Switch 2 featuring an OLED display. However, the company has not yet made a final decision.
According to the report, Samsung Display is expected to provide the panels. Nintendo reportedly wants to use rigid Full HD OLED screens, but they are significantly more expensive than the LED panels used in the current Switch 2. As a result, the company is concerned that the retail price of the new model could become too high for most consumers. The ongoing global memory shortage also continues to affect Nintendo and has already forced the company to raise the price of the Switch 2. Starting September 1, the console will cost $/€50 more in Western markets.
ZDNet adds that if Nintendo and Samsung Display reach an agreement, mass production of the Switch 2 OLED would not begin until late 2027.
Nintendo followed a similar strategy with the original Switch. The console launched in 2017, while the OLED revision arrived in 2021. Samsung also supplied the display panels for that model.
