Square Enix has officially announced that the popular MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV will become available on the Nintendo Switch 2 console on August 4, 2026. The announcement was made by producer and game director Naoki Yoshida (Yoshi-P) during the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival 2026 in Berlin. Pre-orders for the new version are already open.
Following lengthy negotiations between Square Enix and Nintendo, the developers reached compromise terms for players:
During the presentation, Naoki Yoshida, better known to the community as Yoshi-P, delivered his signature surprises. The producer and game director of Final Fantasy XIV took the stage dressed in costume as the new Bastion tank from the upcoming Evercold expansion, drawing thunderous applause from Fan Festival attendees in Berlin. The unusual outfit instantly became one of the event's most discussed topics and quickly went viral across social media.
The Nintendo Switch 2 version will be fully featured, receiving no graphical or content downgrades. Players will gain access to all current content without the creation of isolated servers. Thanks to full cross-platform support, Switch 2 users will be able to play in the same world alongside players on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
The release on the new console marks another major milestone in expanding the MMORPG's audience. The community is already actively discussing the announcement, noting that the console's portable format could become one of the most convenient ways for long gaming sessions and exploring Eorzea.
