Amid rumors that Arkane Studios could be shut down and Marvel's Blade might be canceled, new information suggests Xbox could have a very different plan.
Fans noticed that at the end of June, Arkane's president Leonard Bendel quietly stepped down. He was replaced without an official announcement by Jerk Gustafsson, the co founder and head of MachineGames, the Swedish studio best known for the modern Wolfenstein games and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
Many analysts and players believe Xbox may choose to merge Arkane with MachineGames instead of closing the French studio. Under this scenario, the creators of Dishonored and Prey would work under unified leadership, allowing both teams to better coordinate development.
The move would make sense, as both studios share a similar philosophy when it comes to game design and storytelling. They have also worked together before on Wolfenstein: Youngblood, although that co op shooter failed to become a major success. Hopefully, Gustafsson and the combined team will be able to bring Marvel's Blade to a successful release.
Xbox is expected to announce on July 6 which studios it plans to close or sell, while also revealing other major decisions regarding its first party studios.
