Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka has announced that the celebration of Sonic's 35th anniversary will bring even more surprises to fans. Although no major game announcements have been made so far, the developers are working on projects designed to encompass the series' entire history and satisfy fans from all eras.
So far, as part of the celebration, the upcoming game Sonic Pico Park has already been mentioned, alongside numerous DLC updates released for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. According to Iizuka, some future announcements will remain a secret for now, as the Sonic fan community is extremely observant of any clues.
In an interview with Pocket Tactics, Iizuka also commented on the possible expansion of the series into other genres, such as first-person shooters or Dynasty Warriors-style games. He emphasized that authenticity is critically important for the developers. The team does not plan to simply drop the characters into existing genres—any new gaming experience must absolutely reflect the series' signature traits: speed, action, freedom, and the unique personalities of the heroes.
The developers intend to continue experimenting with ideas through racing projects and collaborations with independent studios. The main condition for showing fans unexpected sides of the Sonic universe remains preserving the original concept and staying true to the classic character depictions.
