Sony has revealed its refreshed lineup of PS5 audio products, introducing the PlayStation Pulse Wireless Headset and Pulse Edge Wireless Headset. The new models build on the technology introduced with Pulse Elite in 2024, which was PlayStation's first wireless headset to feature planar magnetic drivers and PlayStation Link connectivity.
Both new headsets use custom studio-inspired planar magnetic drivers designed to provide strong sound separation and accurate spatial positioning. This should make it easier for players to identify directional audio cues such as footsteps and weapon reloads in competitive first-person shooters.
The PlayStation Pulse and Pulse Edge feature larger planar drivers designed to deliver fuller and deeper bass while retaining the clean and detailed sound associated with Pulse Elite.
Both headsets support PlayStation Link, providing lossless audio with ultra-low latency. They can connect to compatible devices including PS5 consoles, PlayStation Portal, PC and Mac, while also supporting simultaneous connections to compatible Bluetooth devices.
For voice chat, both models feature integrated microphones with AI-enhanced noise rejection designed to filter out background sounds. The headsets also feature an updated design focused on comfort and durability, while rotating earcups allow them to lay flat for easier transportation. Both models will be available in White and Midnight Black.
The Pulse Edge is aimed at players looking for a more premium audio experience. Its planar magnetic drivers feature twice as many magnets compared with the standard PlayStation Pulse, allowing for deeper bass while maintaining the precision and clarity needed to pick out subtle sounds.
Pulse Edge also includes active noise cancellation, a detachable boom microphone for clearer voice communication and a hidden microphone that can be used when the boom mic is removed. The headset uses premium materials and comes with a carrying case.
The PlayStation Pulse Wireless Headset will launch in select markets during the 2026 holiday season, while the Pulse Edge Wireless Headset is scheduled to arrive in early 2027.
Sony has not yet announced the exact release dates, pre order dates or pricing for either headset. More information will be revealed at a later date.
