Spider-Man: Brand New Day has already made box office history ahead of its full theatrical debut. The Marvel film earned $72 million during preview screenings, setting a new all time record for preview grosses. The previous benchmark belonged to Avengers: Endgame, which collected $60 million before its wide release.
Industry analysts expect the movie to earn between $260 million and $280 million during its opening weekend, making it the second biggest domestic launch ever behind Avengers: Endgame. Some projections even place the opening above $300 million, although Sony Pictures is sticking with a more conservative estimate of $190 million to $195 million in the United States.
Internationally, Brand New Day is expected to add another $275 million to $300 million, with many analysts believing the final number could be even higher. For comparison, Spider-Man: No Way Home debuted with $327 million internationally and $587 million worldwide.
The film has also set another record, with $309 million reportedly spent on its global marketing campaign, making it one of the most expensive promotional efforts in movie history.
The story takes place four years after Spider-Man: No Way Home, with the entire world having forgotten that Peter Parker is Spider-Man. Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker, while Zendaya reprises her role as MJ, leaving the hero to fight crime anonymously once again after losing the people closest to him.
